This metric is not re-read cell by cell by the validation harness yet. It is written by the same loader as a checked metric from the same file family (see below), and its coverage is listed here; a component for it can be added in components.yaml.

Definition

Full-time-equivalent classroom teachers reported to NCES for the school.

  • Teacher full-time equivalents from the NCES CCD school staff file (2023-24), and October membership divided by that figure. A reported zero at an operating school (60 of 535 in 2023-24) is a non-report and is served as not reported, never as 0.

What is served

  • Years: 2023-24
  • 535 school-year cells across 535 schools; 60 stored as suppressed (publisher withheld)

What it cannot show

  • Staff FTE is reported once a year by the state to NCES; it lags the enrollment series and is missing for some charter schools.
  • Charter networks often report staff for several campuses under one school, so a handful of charters show one to six FTE against hundreds of students; 25 of 474 ratios exceed 40 students per teacher and should be read as reporting artefacts, not staffing levels.

How it was checked

Every served number runs through the four-check taxonomy described on the methodology page: (i) completeness, (ii) an exact re-read of the file by independent Python, (iii-b) a second publisher where one exists, (iv) recomputation of derived values.
