CHECKED AGAINST THE ORIGINAL FILES

Every served value for 2017-18, 2019-20, 2022-23, 2024-25 was re-read from the source file by independent code: 2,037 of 2,048 cells agree exactly, 0 disagree, 11 withheld by the publisher on both sides. Per-cell report.

Definition

Share of students enrolled 10 or more days who were absent 10% or more of their enrolled days (Survey 5, annual unduplicated enrollment).

  • The state's 'absent 10% or more' measure: students absent 10% or more of the days they were enrolled, among students enrolled 10 or more days, divided by that enrollment. The file reports fractions; they are stored as percentages. The denominator stored with the value is the file's enrollment count (Survey 5, annual unduplicated).
  • The annual enrollment is about 5% larger than October membership (2024-25: 351,485 against 335,188 across the schools with both) because it counts every student who enrolled at any point; a student who attended two schools counts at each.

What is served

  • Years: 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25
  • 4,092 school-year cells across 566 schools; 23 stored as suppressed (publisher withheld)
  • 3,355 cells carry a peer-group percentile (all-students rows of schools with a peer group)

What it cannot show

  • Chronic absence has four public definitions for Florida schools (this one, absent 21+ days, the federal EDFacts 10% measure, and CRDC's 15+ days), which do not agree on levels; compare a school across years within one definition.
  • The state file includes PK students; the federal copy in EDFacts does not (see the cross-publisher check).

Comparability across years

  • Published from 2017-18. The 2019-20 rate reflects the pandemic spring; 2020-21 mixes in-person and remote attendance rules.

How it was checked

Every served number runs through the four-check taxonomy described on the methodology page: (i) completeness, (ii) an exact re-read of the file by independent Python, (iii-b) a second publisher where one exists, (iv) recomputation of derived values.

(ii) Base case — outcomes track
YearsCommon cellsMatchesMismatchesSuppressedStatus
2017-18, 2019-20, 2022-23, 2024-252,0482,037011PASS

(iii-b) Cross-publisher: against the federal EDFacts copy for 2022-23, 253 of 264 schools without pre-kindergarten agree within one student (95.8%, PASS); at schools with pre-kindergarten the federal count is lower by 0.66 students per PK student (r = 0.86), consistent with EDFacts counting K-12 only. This is a regression slope for an annual-count gap against October membership, not a PK prevalence estimate. Report.

In the ratings

Schools are ranked on this metric within their peer group (40 nearest schools on demographics and size, same level, sector and magnet status) and district-wide, with the rank inverted where lower is better so a high percentile always means a better outcome. See outliers and movers for this metric, and the ratings overview for how peer groups are built.
